Ru Newman

Ru is the Managing Director of Care Wyvern after acquiring the business in early 2003 having decided he wanted to do something that made a positive difference to society.

He had previously enjoyed a 20 year career in the Advertising Industry, working for a number of major companies servicing blue chip clients where his work took him abroad to meet with clients but also to live in Hong Kong.

Ru works closely with Tina, the Operations Manager, and his wife Kerry to ensure a smooth running company. As well as his business skills, Ru is involved in the day to day operations of Care Wyvern. His determination to work in the care sector and to make a difference drives the spirit of the company enabling its staff to grow and develop, as he recognises they are the most important asset in this people business.

In addition to running the business Ru is Chair of the Somerset Home Care Providers Forum, a group that represents home care providers in the county offering a link between its membership and the Local Authority and other industry bodies and commissioners. They also work together as a forum for discussion on issues that affect the whole industry.

Ru is a keen sportsman and boasts about being (probably) the world’s tallest wicket keeper and (allegedly) the world’s worst goalkeeper (now retired). He has been involved in coaching sport over the years, previously coaching junior rugby and cricket and subsequently coaching his son’s football team ultimately becoming chairman of the football club. He also enjoys cycling, playing tennis and snooker whenever he can. Ru is a lifelong fan of both Bristol City and Gloucestershire CCC and goes to watch his teams whenever he can. Ru likes to relax by listening to music or going to watch live bands. His taste in music spans Reggae to World Music to Indie and everything in between.
